Who should proceed the measles blood test?

1. Locally born individuals between 30-50 should be tested for Measles Antibody level.
2. Anyone who are not sure whether a second dose MMR was given or not should tested for Measles Antibody level.
3. Foreign domestic helpers with no history of contracting Measles should tested for Measles Antibody level ASAP.
4. For individuals born outside of Hong Kong should also consider to tested for Measles Antibody level.

What should we do to protect ourself and my children from having Measles?

You would have noticed that the cases of Measles in Hong Kong have increased dramatically in the last few months of 2019. The trend is likely to persist in the rest of the year, as Japan, the Philippines and Taiwan have experienced. Please note, however, the absolute number of cases is still low compared to countries near us. This is due to the fact that we as a community is very well vaccinated. Nevertheless, there are still groups in our community who are vulnerable. They are:

1. Those who have NOT been vaccinated: infants below ONE YEAR of age, and
2. foreign domestic helpers working in Hong Kong, who may never have been vaccinated.
3. Those who may have only received ONE DOSE of the Measles vaccine, namely, those born between 1967 to 1989. In simple terms, people between 30-50 years of age.
4. Anyone who may be immunocompromised.

No need to do anything if you have had measles before, or have received 2 doses of measles vaccine.
