Sublingual Immunotherapy - Relief at the tip of your tongue

Immunotherapy is the only allergy treatment that has the potential to cure the disease. It gets at the cause of the problem, rather than to just treat the symptoms. Immunotherapy, to desensitize allergies, can be administered as shots or under the tongue (sublingual) drops or tablets. (This is also called Oral Immunotherapy).

About Allergy Drops

Allergy Drops are a mixture of allergy serums-the same substances used in allergy injections-mixed into allergy drops and taken under the tongue (known as sublingual immunotherapy).

Allergy drops work by gradually exposing the body to measured amounts of a specific allergen to help the body build a tolerance to allergy triggers. After a period of treatment with allergy drops, when a person encounters the particular allergens, they will have a reduced or very minor allergic response.

Clinical experience with SLIT spans more than 60 years. In other parts of the world, especially in Europe, sublingual treatment has become increasingly commonplace. Favorable results with more than 50 double-blind, placebo-controlled studies have been published in peer-reviewed journals.

The Allergy Drops are taken once a day, in the comfort of the patient’s own home, and do not require weekly doctor visits.

Why Allergy Drops?

The ability to treat young children is perhaps the most important benefit of SLIT. This is especially important because mounting evidence suggests that treating allergy triggers early in life can decrease the risk of developing asthma in later years. Two childhood allergic conditions, atopic dermatitis (eczema) and recurrent otitis media, may also benefit from SLIT. A significant portion of children with untreated atopic dermatitis eventually go on to develop asthma.

More importantly, they have been known to lower asthma rates associated with allergies in children, a problem that is reaching an epidemic proportion.

Who Should Use

Although most people who suffer from allergies and related illnesses can benefit from allergy drops, many people are not aware that drops are a viable option. Allergy drops are especially helpful for people who can’t tolerate or don’t respond to allergy shots, including:

Infants and children

?Allergy drops have proven especially helpful for children with eczema, which often have underlying allergic causes. Research shows that many children with untreated eczema and allergies often develop asthma and other chronic conditions later in life, so treating them early can have lifelong benefits.

Patients with Mite or dog or cat allergies

Other than avoidance and symptom relief, there has been little to offer patients suffering from these allergies. Clinical evidence shows a great deal of promise in treating those allergies through sublingual immunotherapy, which even the most sensitive patients can tolerate.
